The Carbon Market of Trees
4% of the total atmospheric carbon over a hectare of forest is actively traded between the same hectare of trees via the mycorhizzal marketplace. That ends up being around 280 Kg of carbon and it's enough to power an average home for a week.
If it weren't for the underground fungal network forests would either work very differently or would not exist at all. I tend to think it would be the latter.
