Galadriel in canon cannot return to the west until she redeems a terrible oath she took in leaving with Fëanor. That's changed in season 1 to her trying to revenge her brother and ensure Sauron is truly gone from the world. (Her oath’s redemption is that “you would have a queen, not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn” part of LotR.) But in canon, everyone is quite nervous Sauron is still around, so that tracks.
