Best way to play it these days is through OpenMW (though it requires you to own the game on GOG or Steam). It comes with a bunch of fixes out of the box, can run natively on Linux, and makes modding a total breeze.

It's still quite a fun game today, even on the Xbox, but I just find it easier to play via OpenMW.
