Supposedly Be was working on a redesign for BeOS towards the end. Christopher Sanders has some of their designs documented here: http://www.pixelknave.com/portfolio/beos.html

It’s interesting to reflect on the note “…the UI was designed by engineers, for engineers…” and yet it was and somewhat is still revered by designers too.

These designs feel far less timeless than BeOS’s original UI imho. I wonder how far they got implementing this.
