When I ended my problem drinking and drug use, everything ultimately had to come from within.

No amount of shame could have done what a simple ceasefire with myself did. That peace grew into appreciation, then admiration, then love.

I don't feel tempted to go back to those behaviors. I'm not interested in hurting someone I love.
