It is my expert opinion that Apple’s lack of standardization (even internally) for its icon sizing across platforms is a huge embarrassment.
macOS started with 16, 32, and 128. And over the years, we only got new sizes that made sense with that (64, 256, 512, and 1024).
But iPhone started with 57, then changed to 60/120/180 (with a variety of unrelated sizes). I feel like had it started with 64 instead, we could’ve been on a decent track.
But the trend continues today with watchOS and tvOS.
