my previous perception of dachshunds was that they were quite rare, but it turns out the breed with a German name is a bit more common in countries bordering Germany than in the US. In fact, the breed distribution is quite different in the Netherlands than in the US in general, with a lot of dogs that I thought only existed in paintings of noblemen from the 1700s
