The "conventional unconventional" view of Gen 6:1-4 is that the sons of God are fallen angels who took on human-like form, and the daughters of men are natural humans. They have progeny who, for whatever reason, are giants. The giants are incredibly evil and constantly stir up trouble until God decides to flood the earth to get rid of them. When they die, their corrupt spirits linger in the form of demons that can possess people and control and torment them. The apocryphal Book of Enoch describes some of this.
You seemed to have a different idea of what demons are, though. So who or what are they really, and where did they come from?
