π― An example from today's Washington Post story on the supreme court's Grants Pass decision:
"The Supreme Court agreed to take the case after hearing from an unlikely coalition that spanned the political spectrum, including liberals such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and officials in Republican-led states such as Montana and Alabama."
I can only think of two reasons why someone would call this coalition "unlikely." Either they're clueless about politics in exactly the way you mean or else, like wapo, they're paid to confuse people about who politicians work for.
