I think I'd agree - it's more or less equivalent to pulling the wrong folder out of a filing cabinet.
But... well designed systems take human mistakes into account. In this case, I think the failure might be that the court didn't then overturn it (though that would then open up a bunch of questions that I'm skipping over)
