Kyonko802 (nprofile…9j4q) supersid (nprofile…tffa) Live services have been around for a while now, but I think I mostly place the blame for their new popularity on Fortnite for not just being live service, but being too profitable while being a live service. They cut costs left and right, only hire artists on commission, let go of employees asking for too much pay, etc, and they make billions a year with only 1 game that receives just enough content to be considered active, but just little enough that it doesn't cost a lot to keep up.
Companies look at that, they see the billions in profit with only millions in cost, and they want it. That's well over a couple hundred million gain over spending. Yet they all ignore how improbable it is to chase a market that is already filled by this one game that owns 80% of the entire modern live service market (at least 15% of the rest being CoD).
