I think part of the problem is envy. When one sees a powerful, self-confident person doing a flex, one wishes they were that person. We admire them, when we should see a threat to social order.
Reminds me of a meeting I was at with the general counsel to a very big corp. He ordered a person fired. Aide said, "That's going to violate the whistleblower statute." He simply said, "I don't give a shit about the whistleblower statute." I could see his staff was deeply impressed by this.
