"Left our encampment about two hours after sunrise, but were obliged to return to it almost immediately as the horses were utterly unable to proceed in the great depth of snow which lay around us. Towards evening two Indians arrived from #WallaWalla with the accounts of the Snake Country.
"Thursday. Not being able to proceed to Fort Colvile with horses, Mr. Lowe, Michel, myself, and the Indian started on foot about 10 pm... #History #WAHistory #HistoricJourney
