(The ticket office at Piccadilly is always busy, I've never not seen a queue there.) Ticket machines don't offer the full range of tickets available (the Northwest Explorer tickets I use about once a week don't feature) and the machines on some of the stations in Yorkshire don't appear to let you use a Senior Railcard, I've missed trains by trying to buy from a machine then having to queue at the ticket office.
