When I was a kid, I watched a black-and-white show, perhaps Art Linkletter, who had a recurring bit where they would AFFIX POSTAGE STAMPS on some strange items (like a WATERMELON) along with an address and mail it to some viewer. I don't recall the details, but evidently the Post Office cooperated in the scheme.
