Not that there isn't malware in the Apple official app store, but there's much more of it on Android, and not just in the Google Play store.
For me, a chunk of the value of my iPhone is that it's locked down more tightly than Android. Because it also holds my ID, credit card, bank accounts, password manager, and 2FA credentials. I *do not want* to risk dodgy third party apps getting anywhere near it!
