Funny that it was Akira Kitamura that was supposedly responsible for Mega Man (the very first one), but it didn't sell well so it was handed off to Inafundme to revive it thus the second game. While he did very well in reviving and making it a success in the beginning, he had plans for a long time on what he wanted to do with it when he was given directive freedom, granted with the producer keeping him on a leash. (I read this stuff on /mmg/ so I could be wrong! trust but verify!)
With how messed up MMZ was I argue he deserved it. Capcom still wants to keep the old series like MM and MMX up as separate timelines, especially considering how successful Koji Oda was with Mega Man 11 (He also worked on 8). Plus, Inticreates had to keep Inafundme on a leash from the absolute disaster Mighty No.9.
Just have to wait and see what the BRBRBRazilians are up to since there's a few teams working on some MMX fangames. MMXEngine and MMX Deathmatch are a thing too.
