We didn't have smartphones ruining our ability to experience life and tracking you to no end.
I remember I got some walkie talkies from
that had a range of 1 mile. They had just gotten some newer models in that had a range of 2 miles so the 1 mile ones were on sale.
I also had a remote control truck from and that thing took 8 AA batteries and would eat through them in about 45 minutes so after a few times of that I got rechargable Ni-MH batteries and a Ni-MH/Ni-Cd battery charger.
Actually because of that when I got a GBC and later a GBA batteries were never really an issue for me. I'd spend my allowance on Ni-MH batteries when they wore out because that was so much cheaper than buying alkaline batteries.
On road trips I'd have batteries for days.
