Good morning awesome people!! :-) I hope you’re having a good day or night. It’s one of those great day today. but its shaping up to be a pretty good day so far.
Please always remember, you matter, and so do your thoughts and feelings. Never stop being you, never stop being awesome.
Today we are gonna be talking about the Kerr Effect.
The Kerr effect is an optical phenomenon involving a change in the refractive index of a material caused by an applied electric field. The change in the refractive index is directly proportional to the square of the strength of the electric field, making it a non-linear effect. For this reason, it is also known as the quadratic electro-optic effect. This phenomenon occurs when the material becomes birefringent due to the electric field. The Kerr effect is of two types - the Kerr electro-optic effect and the optical Kerr effect. The Kerr effect was first observed in organic liquids and glasses by the Scottish physicist John Kerr in the year 1875.
