I opened the nsidc report you linked and each section was about the Arctic and my brain got just a bit stuck in summer-warm less-ice-than normal -- and I misread your graph title originally and thought it was for the Arctic ;-) Of course warming climate means the winter is warmer too and the increase in sea ice will be less.
