One can only assume that either measles has got more infectious or the minimum infectious dose has dropped. The latter can happen when innate immune resources are managing a chronic viral infection.
Has anyone checked to make sure these children aren't carrying a chronic infection? I understand the desire to take the easy way out and blame lax vaccine uptake, but immune continuity must be assessed also.
