I think I’m going to ask my partner to consider giving me a live plant instead, the next time he feels the urge to buy me flowers.

Partly because I've never been comfortable with the performative gender roles tied to bouquets and vases,

but also because I'm expecting days of wildfire smoke and extreme heat and power outages and I would like to improve the air in my little concrete and glass ecosystem.
