Ok, I watch a lot of murder docs and all too often when they interview friends/family of the “killer” their response is disbelief and some form of “I’m surprised/I can’t believe it/that’s not the person I know/they couldn’t have”
Instead of looking objectively at the evidence, many see themselves; projection, which leads to calls for leniency
It’s much easier to demonize those outside one’s affinity group when one doesn’t see one’s reflection in the “other”
