Most comedy doesn’t age very well and most comedians take a while to get into their groove.
It can be painful to watch old comedy from someone you like. You can see the promise but you want to say, “You’re doing swell, but you still need a few more years to ripen. Maybe don’t show this to anyone.”
Young comedians, men anyway, are all out of shape. They get famous, stop eating in the Arby’s across from the Motel Six, get in shape, and get the Netflix special.
