As someone who used a x-box controller for the steam version, focus on the d-pad with the four directions than the toggle stick. IT's tempting to use the toggle stick but the game is better played with a organized four direction movement.
The game is brilliant since it's easy to master, the fun is experimenting with all the collectables you find.
One thing that impresses me that no other end game boss has done is you can die in the second phase and still get money even after failing during phase 2/3.
