The Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies are on a collision course with one another and are expected to merge into a single elliptical galaxy in a few billion years. But astronomers have detected hypervelocity stars on escape trajectories within the Milky Way, and you have to assume they're being thrown out of Andromeda, some in our direction. Have the two galaxies already started exchanging stars billions of years before they're due to merge?
