I figured out what bothers me about the LLM discourse on Mastodon: I am terrified and I want the people I respect to convince me that my fear is irrational. But, here, no one is engaging with the work or the research or the trajectories or social dynamics – just belief. Consensus is the belief that humans have the Godspark and predicting the next token is useless. It is as though there is an intellectual boycott happening here. It is ineffective and cedes the space to less scrupulous people.
