That doesn't matter too much in the higher frequencies. In the lower frequencies it can cause (or fix) cancellation between your kick and (sub)bass. So, if you EQ your kick and your bass disappears, that's a potential cause. That blurb also doesn't mention that you really need to do most EQing in context. There are a couple of main uses: crafting the sound and avoiding masking.
