I’ve been slowly collecting stories from people who knew my dad, and one thing that comes up time and again is that he often called them some pet name, like “tiger” or “sport.”
I strongly suspect that this was simply a generic stand-in for their name when it didn’t immediately come to his mind, but they all seem to think it was specific to themselves.
