We should be happy to be on the right side of history, help people in need, and have moral superiority over the evil people of this world, because for most of us that's all we're going to get. A lot of us, maybe all of us, won't live to see the day when oppressive institutions are finally defeated or the creation of a new world founded on liberty, equality, and solidarity, with no exploration or oppression, but we can participate in it's creation, and we should get immense joy from this fact.
