What basis would the UK have to keep him pinned down there for months and years on end were there not the rap in Sweden for a pretext? Why does this even need explaining?
Detaining him indefinitely in the UK for *nothing* for years while the US was cooking up his case would have been a lot *more* complicated. He was given *50 months* in a maximum security slammer just for violating bail, which isn't "usual" at all. What more excuses were there?
