Plant Spotlight: Grow and Forage for Borage
Borage is another plant that belongs in your backyard medicine cabinet. Personally, I find the colors in them to be some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Nature is astoundingly beautiful, and your best friend with the right knowledge, and Borage is no exception. I will often try to recommend plants that are pretty enough to be gardened but can also be consumed or used as medicine and this is one of them. I also like to recommend plants that bring in the pollenators so Burt always has a steady stream of bees to fuck and this plant again meets that criteria.
Borage is tasty and often used in culinary pursuits. The leaves taste like cucumber and the beautiful flowers are edible and go great on desserts, even topping cocktails. It contains Vitamin C and is rich in calcium, potassium, and other minerals.
Medicinally, Borage makes a great tea, tincture or poultice ingredient as well. It's a demulcent and expectorant, again making it good for respiratory issues, is an anti inflammatory like most of the herbs I push, is a diuretic that was classically used for centuries to improve adrenal health following periods of stress and replenish health during convalescence. It is considered great for treatment during recovery periods and excellent at dealing with the aftermath of stress, though there are other plants I find better at dealing with stress in the moment. Many consider it to possess adaptogenic qualities.
This plant has no know contraindications and is generally safe for all ages, though ingesting massive quantities of anything can carry risks, and you could find yourself allergic to just about anything, so start small.
