This is yes. There are two notification triggers currently set up from the App. The first is when you move something from any shelf in to the currently reading shelf. The second is when you click finished reading from the currently reading shelf.

I kept the triggers specifically to this currently as I didn’t want people having spam when they add books from either import (future roadmap) or when adding books from the search.

It seemed like the safest trigger points unless people constantly move books on and off the currently reading shelf.
