According to my spouse, I've become "much more ADHD" in the last year. I felt it, too, but the exact change was hidden in a sea of other changes. I didn't notice that those traits were being expressed so much more frequently and openly.

A year ago I had emergency surgery. I've not had coffee or really any caffeine since then.

I'd been self-medicating without knowing it since I was 16 years old. And I was doing so not to alleviate some intrinsic pain but in order to mask better, to be able to fit in and not be treated poorly for behaving "differently" from others.
