It’s actually quite stunning up north here looking at it through a spotting scope on a clear night. It’s one of our only galactic neighbours visible with the naked eye. I believe about the only other galactic formations that we can see from earth that I have personally seen are the large and small Magellanic clouds.
I’ll never forget when I learned how to spot Andromeda, and saw it for the first time with the naked eye, knowing that in a space of sky the size of my pinky fingernail with an outstretched arm, were over 300 billion stars whose light left their source two and a half million years ago.
