It seems wrong to reference that people were making $30k a year and supporting a family of four in 1980 without mentioning the pensions. Not 401ks. Not IRAs. Pensions. Real money the company would put into an account for you that would be tied to and grow with the company’s profits, not with the mood of the economy. Almost like they don’t want us to remember watching our family play the lottery of “are they going to fire me before I retire so they can keep the pension.”
