My friends are always surprised when I say loyalty is not one of my values. Although, I'm always there for them and the first to help in anything. I guess after about 4 years of an abusive relationship the concept of loyalty feels manipulative to me. The idea of staying in a bad situation for someone else feels inherently wrong, but sometimes worth it for the long run in non abusive contexts. I don't think people should be loyal when it's bad for them. Would love to hear other perspectives
