At the current, and foreseeable, level of tech, nuclear power, including fusion power, is going to be highly centralised, with a small number of thick and complex supply chains. Centralisation creates socioeconomic hierarchies, and hierarchies are pleasing to a conservative brain.

Almost all other currently available sustainable energy technologies, except for large-scale hydro power, are inherently decentralised. They don't form focus points; they don't form bottlenecks; they don't create inherent hierarchies. If your neighbour has a windmill, you can get a bunch of solar panels for your own use, and so on. Where's the profit in that for a conservative politician? Where's the soothing feeling?
