From my state library... Two Banned Book Week (Sept 22-28) reports this year. ALA reports that 2024 challenges (so far) are down from last year, while PEN America says that school challenges were significantly up for the 2023-2024 school year.
The reason behind the differing numbers lies in a different definition of “banning” ALA considers a book banned only if it has been permanently removed; PEN America includes anything challenged or temporarily removed as banned.
