They're similar, but not quite. Unless you go with something built for tinkering (like an Ender or even a Creality printer), you're not going to do much stuff in Arduino. You can, but you have to make sure the board is the right kind, and familiarize yourself with the syntax. I believe this may be a little more involved than you think. In my opinion, just get something that works, and learn the quirks along the way, as you're designing stuff in something like Fusion or FreeCAD or something. It's way less frustrating to do that alone than have to do that AND also program your own features for your printer.
