BEST VIDYA GIRL CONTEST 2024 FINAL, PRE-GAME ANALYSIS

1st Seed Samus Aran (Metroid) VS 10th Seed Zelda (Legend of Zelda series)

It’s been a bumpy ride this last week, but tomorrow’s the day, the day when our contest winner will finally be decided! We ended up with perhaps the single most obvious final, but because of that it should also be way more competitive that last year’s Samus victory lap, because BOTH these girls just have so much going for them, such a long and rich history, and barely any discernible weaknesses. Hell, they’re both characters so beloved and iconic that they’ve been given MULTIPLE Smash Bros. reps, something otherwise reserved for true Nintendo legends like Mario and Link

Of course, Samus IS the favorite going into this match - how could she not be? Not only does gaming’s baddest babe have a 9-0 record in this contest, she STILL has yet to be seriously challenged, as Remilia and Pyra breaking 46% on her is the best anyone has ever been able to do. Even scarier is the way whenever Samus faces a girl that on paper seems like a legitimate threat, she goes right for the throat and instantly kills what was expected to be an interesting match, regardless of whether her opponent is Reimu, Super Tifa or my very own Pyra. Samus does to her Waifu contest rivals what Doomguy does to demons, she mercilessly tears them to shreds.

However, the same can be said for Zelda – after somehow not getting nominated last year, Legend of Zelda’s eponymous princess has this season laid waste to her half of the bracket, dominating pretty much every single one of her matches from start to finish in a manner very much reminiscent of 2023 Samus. Zelda’s immense strength isn’t just a Fedi thing either: during the last ever GameFAQs Character Battle (the niggerfaggot admin has since focused on SJW censorship instead of holding fun contests), Zelda actually managed to do the unthinkable and outperform Samus, finishing 3rd overall behind Link and Cloud, but outright BEATING Mr. Nintendo himself, Super Mario, something that even Samus has never managed to do.

It’s hardly surprising that Zelda has gained strength over the years. Not only has her series grown in popularity (ESPECIALLY after Breath of the Wild), but after getting overshadowed by Midna in Twilight Princess and being completely sidelined in Phantom Hourglass, Zelda has enjoyed a string of great roles in later Zelda games: she was your companion character in Spirit Tracks, your incredibly sweet and precious childhood friend in Skyward Sword, received her strongest characterization yet in BotW, was arguably the true protagonist in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, had another good showing in Tears of the Kingdom, and now has her very own game coming out THIS WEEK! Yeah, Zelda stonks are definitely rising.
