One reason newspapers have an editorial section or an opinion page was so that you could contrast that with all of the *other* sections, and trust that they were impartial.
At least that's how it was back in the day. Nowadays, "journalism" has changed, and the entire paper (website?) is an editorial section. This is a direct cause for the death of the medium, as fewer and fewer people trust the outlets for unbiased information.
Of course, it's a romantic myth that newspapers were *ever* unbiased (or even could be), so maybe I'm just wishful thinking.
