A lot of Mastodon's reputation is deserved to be honest. People on Twitter deride it as Twitter with HOAs, and they're not exactly wrong. It's why I tend to be fairly permissive on federation and will generally only block illegal content or Nazis because I don't wanna be an HOA Karen, but I'm also fairly strict on CWs because I don't want people to defederate from us. Gotta play that HOA game.
