Honestly, for somebody just starting, I recommend a paper logbook. The electronic logbooks start to make more sense when you're doing contesting or other such things. The advanced features of them aren't made for general logging, they're made for contests. They can also kinda get in the way because they're another thing to learn; trying to learn a new piece of software while getting comfortable on the air can be a bit much for many people.
