I just finnished reading "Ink black heart" by Robert Galbraith aka J.K. Rowling. A hefty 1000 pager. I must say that I much enjoy the Strike series storylines. They increasingly have a similar vibes than Agatha Chtisties novels.
However with this book, i did notice some themes that I think have not been apparent in previous five books in the series:
- Far right extermism. Far right secret group consists purely of white men, most of which are misogynistic&violent&dum. They mainly do social media operations and send parcel bombs.
- Bitcoin - The far right extermist group is called "the halvening". Bitcoin is used in the book only to buy illegal stuff from darknet. Usage bitcoin is talked like it is really shady "dark magic" that only true criminals know how to do.
- Twitter and online precence. Twitter is shown as a place where most of the people maliciously hide behind nicknames. Most of the content spread is hateful or toxic some way. Peoples online identies are ruthlessly stolen, and the people private information is represented as easily explorable and exploitable in the internet.
I am not happy on how the things are represented, but I guess this represents the state of public discourse nowdays.
