We took our visiting Portland friends to the Highline, which managed to be horribly crowded despite rain.
I couldn't help telling wistful stories of "urban exploration." I remember what the Highline was like before. A magical secret garden. Such a privilege to see it in those days. I expect they'll put a tourist walkway through the freedom tunnel soon enough.
Exploring isn't dead, though. But going from a busy city street to a meadow riotous with wildflowers? Nothing like that exists now.
