I also read, and am pretty confident now of that read given your response, that your original thread was some left punching. For the record, I have watched python people you call friends, who you would probably describe as progressive, and who are very very well known in the free software world, break a strike outside of Pycon 2012 at the Marriot, of striking housekeeping staff. And when I asked each and everyone one of the people who organized pycon that year what they were going to do to support those working class people, they told men "nothing, we can do nothing", which was and remains total cowardice. To my own discredit I did nothing after that, I didn't abandon that con, which I believe you were also at, I didn't post about it online, I did nothing. But I did put it to those organizers. Thats Jacob Kaplan Moss, thats a number of people. I don't hold out much hope for tech people who strut around claiming to be progressive but throw working people under the bus when its inconvenient for them and I certainly don't see them as of the left. I also don't demand every "leftist" I know to perfectly enact everything they wish to see in the world, free from sin. I despise Elon Musk and have for quite some time, indeed, long before he began his publicly viewable arc toward fascism. I also don't see any identifiable (meaning real human) leftists in the real world, or online, lionizing him. If you do, I have to wonder who these people are, how much effect they actually have on movements and orgs, and what is the point of complaining about them, especially when people like Moss (and others) have either done what I just described or personally stepped on me when I needed help in the Python world when, again, it was personally inconvenient for them. Many many people like me are going to get a world of hurt in the coming years under this now fascist admin and I'd rather trust to a random leftist than I would a "pragmatic" "liberal" or "progressive" or whatever he calls himself, like JKM.
