RFC9498 “The GNU Name System”[^1] has been published, describing one of the fundamental mechanisms behind #GNUnet distributed, content-addressed and censorship resistant storage system.[^2]
I’ve played a bit with GNUnet last year but the pace of its development was so fast that it required too much attention to keep up with network changes, and I gave up. It’s nice to see the RFC which looks like the design has been frozen and will hopefully focus on the implementation stability and usability.
One actual interesting business system built on top of GNUnet is GNU Taler, which is a digital currency system that seems to have the most advantages of cryptocurrencies, while not repeating their sectarian mistakes.[^3]
