Over the whole of human civilization, we can't use more than the sun and geothermal and nuclear energy provides, but people will die needlessly if you demand that constantly to be true. We need to use less energy. We need to stop the monsters ruling us with their unspeakable waste. But we can have a fire every now and then. We just have to save energy we don't use (in the form of trees) before burning it. That is not the same as "carbon neutral" data centers planting forests of useless junk and burning mountains of coal to generate their cement.

If you're going to draw a line in the sand, draw it at degrowth, and taking power from those ruling us and wasting our precious resources. We don't have to go so far as to outlaw fire.
