The rot that caused this starts right here with the word "identity". Postmodernists have hijacked this word to effectively mean political identity thus something you choose. Whereas "gay and lesbian identity" SHOULD mean nothing more than the fact that you are gay/lesbian. It's not something you can choose any more than you can choose left-handedness. Do we talk about "left-handed identity" or "the left-handed community"? No, even though being homosexual is the same kind of thing. It's been taken over by queer pretenders, who aren't actually homosexual but want to politically "identify as" for woke virtue points, as if declaring support for a football team or a political party or a country.
